Short description
Nocturnal Animals is a 2016 drama and thriller directed by Tom Ford, who also wrote the screenplay. Amy Adams plays Susan Morrow, a wealthy Los Angeles art gallery owner whose comfortable but hollow marriage to her second husband is disrupted when her ex-husband Edward Sheffield, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, sends her the manuscript of a novel he has written. He asks her to read it and to get in touch. Alone at night, Susan begins reading, and the story takes hold of her: it follows Tony Hastings, a mathematics professor whose family road trip through Texas descends into violence. Michael Shannon appears as Bobby Andes, with Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Ray Marcus, and Isla Fisher and Ellie Bamber as Tony's wife and daughter. As the book unfolds, Susan is pulled back into memories of her first marriage and forced to confront things about herself and her past. The film comes eight years after Ford's first feature as director, A Single Man, and was made for a budget of 23 million dollars, going on to gross 29 million worldwide.
