Gina lost her sight as a child in a car accident that also killed her parents, and she has built her adult life around her husband, James, depending on him to describe the world to her. An experimental corneal transplant offers her a chance to see again, and James pays for the procedure. Once the bandages come off, Gina begins to explore everything she was previously denied, including a new sense of independence and her own sexuality. James, who preferred her dependence on him, finds the change difficult to accept, and the marriage starts to come apart as Gina uncovers unsettling things about the man she married.
Marc Forster directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Sean Conway, and the film is the ninth of the thirteen features he has directed, following World War Z and preceding Christopher Robin. Blake Lively plays Gina and Jason Clarke plays James, with Ahna O'Reilly, Miquel Fernández, Xavi Sánchez and Yvonne Strahovski in supporting roles. The production, made in the United States on a budget of about 30 million dollars, runs 110 minutes.
Reception was modest. On IMDb the rating stands at 5.4 from around 15,000 votes, and on TMDB it is 5.2 from roughly 624 votes. A critics' rating of 4.6 from 54 reviews places it near the audience scores rather than above them.
