Memories of the Sword

In Goryeo-era Korea, three skilled swordsmen once fought on behalf of ordinary people against an unjust ruler. One of them, Poong-chun, is killed after a comrade betrays him, and his wife Sul-rang disappears with their infant daughter. She raises the girl, Hong-yi, in hiding and trains her in the sword, preparing her to avenge her parents. Years later, the betrayer Yu-baek has become the most powerful figure in the land. When Hong-yi finally learns the truth about her past, she sets out to confront him, and the old bonds between the three swordsmen are tested again.

Memories of the Sword is a 2015 Korean action drama directed by Park Heung-sik, who wrote the screenplay with Choi Ah-reum. It was his second feature, following My Mother the Mermaid in 2004. The cast is led by Lee Byung-hun as Yu-baek, Jeon Do-yeon as Sul-rang, and Kim Go-eun as Hong-yi, with Bae Soo-bin, Seong Yu-bin and Lee Jun-ho in supporting roles.

The film drew moderate responses: on IMDb it holds a 6.3 rating from about 2,800 votes, and on TMDB a 6.6 from roughly 110 votes, indicating a limited but generally positive viewer reception. A critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from eight reviews places professional assessment close to the audience scores.
