The Man Who Knew Infinity

The Man Who Knew Infinity is a biographical drama about Srinivasa Ramanujan, a self-taught mathematician from Madras whose intuitive grasp of number theory went unrecognized by those around him. Seeking a wider audience for his ideas, he writes to the British mathematician G. H. Hardy at Cambridge. Hardy arranges for Ramanujan to travel to England, where the two begin a collaboration that reshapes Ramanujan's work, even as the move separates him from his wife Janaki and leaves him isolated in an unfamiliar academic world.

The film is directed by Matt Brown, who also wrote the screenplay. It is the first of the two features he has directed, followed by Freud's Last Session in 2023. Dev Patel plays Ramanujan and Jeremy Irons plays Hardy, with Toby Jones, Devika Bhise, Stephen Fry and Kevin McNally in supporting roles. The production drew a budget of 10 million USD and took about 12 million USD worldwide.
