Short description

What's left behind the scenes
- Director Paul Schrader recounted that he offered the role of Greco to Michael Douglas, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Nick Nolte, Christopher Walken, Jeff Goldblum, and Rupert Everett, but they all declined the offer for one reason or another. Ultimately, Schrader himself played the character, appearing on screen for the first time.
- To persuade Willem Dafoe to star in the film, Nicolas Cage promised him his entire fee ($100,000) and kept his promise.
- Filming took 25 days. The crew consisted primarily of recent graduates of film schools.
