Angry Indian Goddesses follows Frieda Da Silva, a fashion photographer living in Mumbai, who brings her closest friends together at her family's home in Goa ahead of her wedding. The women come from different corners of India and lead independent lives, but the reunion becomes an extended celebration that stretches across several days. Frieda has kept one detail from her guests: the identity of the man she intends to marry.
The gathering mixes warmth and tension as old bonds, romantic histories and personal frustrations surface among the friends. Their high spirits are tested when the group is harassed by men on the way to the beach, an encounter that exposes the pressures and limits these women face in contemporary Indian society. What begins as a carefree holiday gradually turns toward more difficult territory.
The film is a comedy-drama directed by Pan Nalin, his first feature after a run of earlier work and one that precedes his later film Last Film Show. He also co-wrote the screenplay with Subhadra Mahajan and Arsala Qureishi, and produced with Gaurav Dhingra. The ensemble cast includes Sarah-Jane Dias, Rajshri Deshpande, Sandhya Mridul, Amy Maghera, Pavleen Gujral and Tannishtha Chatterjee. Made as a German-Indian co-production, it holds a 6.9 rating on IMDb from around 3,100 votes and a 6.8 on TMDB from a much smaller pool of users.
