One Million Years B.C.

Set in a prehistoric world where humans coexist with dinosaurs, One Million Years B.C. follows Tumak, a member of a harsh, warlike tribe who is cast out after quarrelling with his father. Wandering through a desolate landscape, he is taken in by the Shell People, a gentler coastal clan, and falls for Loana, a woman of that tribe. Their bond sets the lovers against the customs of both their peoples, and Tumak must eventually reckon with the community he left behind.

The film was directed by Don Chaffey, whose credits also include Jason and the Argonauts and, later, Pete's Dragon. Michael Carreras wrote and produced it for Hammer Film Productions, and the cast is led by Raquel Welch as Loana and John Richardson as Tumak, with Percy Herbert, Robert Brown, Martine Beswick and Jean Wladon among the twenty-one credited performers.

Released in November 1966, the film runs 100 minutes and blends adventure with fantasy. Its ratings sit in the middle range: on IMDb it holds 5.7 from more than nine thousand votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.2 from a much smaller group of users. A critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from fifteen reviews places it slightly above the audience score on IMDb and somewhat below the TMDB figure, suggesting a broadly moderate response across critics and viewers alike.
