Anna Parisi is a struggling fine arts painter who takes a job as a personal Christmas shopper to make ends meet. Her first client is Marc Rehnquist, a stressed corporate executive in the advertising industry who lacks the time to handle his holiday shopping. As they spend time together, Marc learns that the value of a gift is not defined by its cost, while Anna finds an unexpected path to professional success. Their professional relationship eventually evolves into a romantic connection, though tensions arise when Anna discovers Marc used her artwork for a campaign without permission.
