The Comedian

Jackie Burke was once a successful television comedian, but his fame rests on a character he played years ago. Audiences still identify him with that role, and his attempts to move past it have not gone well. After an altercation with a member of the audience, he is sentenced to community service, where he meets Harmony Schiltz, the daughter of a wealthy Florida property developer. The two form a connection that changes the course of Jackie's life.

Robert De Niro plays Jackie, with Leslie Mann as Harmony, Danny DeVito as Jimmy Berkowitz, Edie Falco as Miller, Harvey Keitel as Mac Schiltz and Charles Grodin as Dick D'Angelo. Taylor Hackford directed from a screenplay by Jeff Ross, Art Linson and Richard LaGravenese. The film was released in December 2016, following Hackford's Parker in 2013 as the twelfth feature he directed.

Made for a budget of about 15 million dollars, it earned roughly 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 8,600 votes, and on TMDB 5.7 from about 174 votes. A critics' rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 112 reviews places it near those audience scores, indicating a broadly mixed response rather than a sharp divide between reviewers and viewers.
