Jennifer and Vince are two people in financial trouble who barely know each other. Jennifer has drained her savings toward a down payment on a house, while Vince is struggling with gambling debts. After meeting at a friend's wedding and seeing how generous the guests' gifts are, they hatch a plan: announce their own engagement and wedding, collect the presents, and split the proceeds. Neither can stand the other, and staging a convincing celebration turns out to cost far more than they expected, while their feelings refuse to follow the script they agreed on. The film is a television romantic comedy set in the United States and produced by Hartbreak Films.
Gil Junger directed, working from a screenplay by Howard March, with Craig McNeil producing. The film sits seventh in Junger's directing career as listed here, arriving after Teen Spirit and before Think Like a Dog, and follows earlier credits including 10 Things I Hate About You and Beauty & the Briefcase. Melissa Joan Hart plays Jennifer and Joey Lawrence plays Vince, heading a credited cast of 21 that also includes Nicole Tubiola, Burgess Jenkins, Jason MacDonald and Diane Neal.
Made for about 5 million dollars, the film has drawn modest but positive viewer responses: on IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from roughly 7,600 votes, and on TMDB it rates 6.6 out of 10 from 255 votes. Both figures suggest a small, generally favorable audience rather than a broad one.
