A man named Kim, unemployed and overwhelmed by debt after his girlfriend leaves him, jumps from a bridge into the Han River in Seoul. He wakes on a small, uninhabited island in the middle of the river, close to the city but beyond reach. Because he cannot swim and no one notices him, he settles into a life of survival there, building a shelter and foraging for food. Across the water, a young woman who has not left her apartment for years spots him through a camera or telescope. Fascinated by the castaway she watches from afar, she begins to emerge from her self-imposed isolation, and her observation changes both of their lives.
Lee Hae-jun wrote and directed this 2009 Korean comedy-drama, the first of the two features he is credited with directing. Jung Jae-young plays Mr. Kim, and Jung Ryeo-won plays the reclusive woman, Kim Jung-yeon. Kim Moo-ryoung and Kang Woo-suk produced the film, which runs 119 minutes.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.9 out of 10 from about 21,000 votes, and on TMDB it also rates 7.9 out of 10 from roughly 750 votes. The two audience scores align closely across a large and a small pool of voters, indicating a consistently well-regarded film rather than a divisive one.
