The Foreigner

The Foreigner is an action thriller about a London businessman named Quan Ngoc Minh, a man with a violent history he thought he had left behind. When his teenage daughter is killed in a bombing carried out by Irish Republican terrorists, and the authorities fail to produce results, Quan decides to hunt the perpetrators himself. His search brings him into conflict with Liam Hennessy, an Irish politician who once had ties to the movement and is believed to know the identities of those responsible. What follows is a struggle between the two men, with Quan drawing on skills from his past to pressure Hennessy into revealing what he knows.

Martin Campbell directed the film, the thirteenth of eighteen features in his directing career, following Green Lantern and preceding The Protégé. David Marconi wrote the screenplay, and Cathy Schulman, Jackie Chan and Arthur M. Sarkissian produced. Jackie Chan plays Quan, and Pierce Brosnan plays Hennessy. The supporting cast includes Rory Fleck-Byrne, Ray Fearon, Charlie Murphy and Orla Brady, among a credited cast of 104 and a crew of 318.

The production was a multinational effort involving companies from the United Kingdom, India, China, the United States and Switzerland, made on a budget of 35 million dollars, and it took in roughly 145 million dollars worldwide. Audience responses were similar across platforms, with a rating of 7 out of 10 on IMDb from 132,000 votes and the same score on TMDB from just over 3,000 votes, while film critics gave it 6 out of 10 from 125 reviews.
