A BBC adaptation of the Victorian "penny dreadful" tale of 18th century "demon barber" Sweeney Todd, of Fleet Street, who cuts the throats of unsuspecting clients in his London shop.
What's left behind the scenes
- The scene of the Lord's Prayer uses a version that only came into use after 1928.
- Part of the plot revolves around a string of pearls. Sweeney Todd first appeared as the main antagonist in a series of short stories, “The Pearl Necklace” (published in 1846-1847 and later republished).
