Charlie St. Cloud

Charlie St. Cloud is a young man in a Pacific Northwest town with a talent for sailing and a close bond with his younger brother, Sam. A car accident upends that future, and years later Charlie works as the caretaker of the cemetery where Sam is buried, setting aside sailing and most of the life he had planned. When Tess, a former classmate preparing to sail around the world alone, comes back into his life, Charlie finds himself caught between a promise tied to his brother and the possibility of moving on.

Burr Steers directed the film, his third feature after Igby Goes Down and 17 Again. Zac Efron plays Charlie, with Charlie Tahan as Sam, Amanda Crew as Tess, Augustus Prew, Donal Logue and Kim Basinger in supporting roles. Lewis Colick and Craig Pearce wrote the screenplay, and Marc Platt produced.

Released in 2010, the film drew mixed responses. On IMDb it holds 6.4 out of 10 from roughly 66,000 votes, while on TMDB it averages 7 out of 10 from about 2,300 ratings. A critics' score of 4.6 out of 10 across 121 reviews sits well below the audience figures. Made for a reported 44 million dollars, it returned about 48 million worldwide.
