Life As We Know It

Life As We Know It centers on Holly Berenson, a caterer building her own business, and Eric Messer, who works as a sports network director. A first date between them goes badly enough that they want nothing more to do with each other, yet they share two things: their mutual dislike and their affection for Sophie, the young daughter of close friends. When those friends die unexpectedly, Holly and Eric learn they have been named as Sophie's guardians, which forces them to move in together and raise the child.

The comedy comes from their attempts to balance demanding careers, separate social lives and clashing habits under one roof while caring for a small child. Greg Berlanti directed the film, his second feature after The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy, from a screenplay by Ian Deitchman and Kristin Rusk Robinson. Katherine Heigl plays Holly and Josh Duhamel plays Eric, with Josh Lucas as Sam; the role of Sophie is shared by Alexis, Brynn and Brooke Clagett. Paul Brooks and Barry Josephson produced.

Made for about 38 million dollars, the film took roughly 106 million dollars worldwide in 2010, a solid return. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 144,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.9 from a much smaller group of 3,334. The critics' score of 4.6 from 152 reviews puts it well below either audience measure.
