Okja

Okja is a genetically engineered super pig raised in the mountains of South Korea by a young girl named Mija, who has cared for the animal for a decade as her closest companion. Their quiet life ends when the multinational Mirando Corporation, which created the creature as part of a promotional scheme, reclaims its property. Mija sets out to bring her friend home, and in doing so is drawn into a conflict involving animal rights activists, corporate executives and scientists, each with their own designs on the animal.

The film was directed by Bong Joon-ho, who also wrote the screenplay with Jon Ronson and produced alongside Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner. It followed Snowpiercer in his filmography and came before Parasite. Ahn Seo-hyun plays Mija, with Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Steven Yeun, Jake Gyllenhaal and Giancarlo Esposito in supporting roles. It was a Canadian, American and Korean co-production, made for about 50 million dollars and released in June 2017.

Its worldwide box office return of roughly 2 million dollars was small relative to its budget, while audiences have rated it 7.3 out of 10 on IMDb from around 141,000 votes and 7.3 out of 10 on TMDB from more than 4,600 votes. A critics' rating of 7.6 out of 10 from 239 reviews places it slightly above those viewer scores.
