Dragon Ball: The Path to Power

Dragon Ball: The Path to Power is an animated fantasy adventure that offers an alternative version of the original series' beginning. The story follows the meeting of Son Goku and Bulma, who team up to search for the Dragon Balls to grant a wish. Along their journey, they are joined by Yamcha, Puar, Oolong, and Master Roshi. The plot focuses on a revised conflict with the Red Ribbon Army, where the organization seeks out Goku rather than the other way around, leading to battles against powerful robots and generals.

Produced by Toei Animation and released in 1996, the film was created to mark the tenth anniversary of the series. It is the 17th movie based on the manga and the 4th specifically from the Dragon Ball stage. The film was directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi and written by Aya Matsui. In Yamauchi's career, this is the 11th of 15 films he directed, following Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn and preceding Street Fighter Alpha: The Movie. The voice cast features Masako Nozawa, Hiromi Tsuru, Toru Furuya, Naoki Tatsuta, Naoko Watanabe, and Kin'ya Aikawa.

The movie has been received positively by viewers. It holds a rating of 7.2 on IMDb based on 3,400 votes and a slightly higher score of 7.4 on TMDB from 411 votes.
