Mean Dreams is a Canadian-American drama and thriller about two teenagers living in a rural part of the United States. Jonas, fifteen, has grown up on his family's farm and longs to get away from the hard life there. When Casey moves into a nearby house with her father, a police officer named Wayne Caraway, the two young people begin a tender relationship. Wayne disapproves and tries to put a stop to it. After Jonas discovers that the corrupt Wayne intends to take a large sum of money from a drug deal, he steals the cash himself and he and Casey run off, with Wayne soon pursuing them. The film is directed by Nathan Morlando, marking his second feature following his 2010 debut, and was written by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby.
The cast is led by Sophie Nélisse as Casey and Josh Wiggins as Jonas, with Bill Paxton as Wayne Caraway and Colm Feore as a character known as The Chief, alongside Joe Cobden and Vickie Papavs. It runs 108 minutes and was produced by JoBro Productions, Woods Entertainment and Euclid 431 Pictures.
On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 from around 5,300 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 out of 10 from a much smaller base of 141 votes, indicating broadly moderate audience approval. A critics' rating of 6.7 out of 10, drawn from 46 reviews, places professional assessment slightly above the audience scores.
