Prevenge

Ruth is a widow in the late stages of pregnancy who becomes convinced that her unborn child is speaking to her and directing her actions. What the voice asks of her is violent: she begins hunting down people from her past, targeting men in particular. The reasons behind her campaign stay murky at first and come into focus gradually as she works through a list of those she holds responsible for what she has lost.

Alice Lowe wrote and directed the film and also plays Ruth, with Jo Hartley, Kayvan Novak, Tom Davis, Kate Dickie and Gemma Whelan among the supporting cast. It was produced by Will Kane, Vaughan Sivell and Jennifer Handorf for Western Edge Pictures and Gennaker, and runs 89 minutes, mixing comedy and drama with horror, fantasy and thriller elements. Prevenge was Lowe's first film as director, followed years later by Timestalker.

The film drew a critics' rating of 7.4/10 from 87 reviews, well above its audience scores of 5.9/10 on IMDb from around 9,300 votes and 5.5/10 on TMDB from roughly 260 votes, a split suggesting reviewers responded to its premise and tone more readily than general viewers did.
