Love Ranch

Love Ranch is a drama set in the mid-1970s about Grace and Charlie Bontempo, a married couple who run the first legal brothel in Nevada. Grace, the daughter of a prostitute, manages the business with a sharp head for commerce and a degree of sympathy for the women who work there, while Charlie brings a criminal past and a taste for spending and infidelity. Their venture draws the hostility of conservative and religious circles, and their marriage is strained well before Charlie brings the boxer Armando Bruza to the ranch to train. Grace becomes his manager, and the professional arrangement between them begins to slide into something more personal, provoking Charlie's jealousy.

Taylor Hackford directed from a screenplay by Mark Jacobson. The film sits between Ray (2004) and Parker (2013) in Hackford's filmography, which by that point included ten earlier features. Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci lead the cast as Grace and Charlie, with Sergio Peris-Mencheta as Armando Bruza, and Gina Gershon, Taryn Manning and Scout Taylor-Compton among the supporting roles.

The production was a German and American co-production from Rising Star and Capitol Films. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 3.7 out of 10 from 50 reviews, while on TMDB it stands at 5.4 out of 10 from 57 votes, a modest gap that leaves both well below the middle of the scale.
