The City of the Dead
Short description
A history professor sends one of his students to Whitewood, a small New England town, so she can look into its witch trials for her research. Nan Barlow arrives in the isolated community, takes a room at the Raven's Inn, and finds that the locals are unwelcoming and the town holds secrets connected to its past. What begins as academic fieldwork turns into something far more dangerous.
The film was directed by John Llewellyn Moxey, his first feature, and written by George Baxt. Venetia Stevenson plays Nan, with Christopher Lee as Professor Alan Driscoll, Patricia Jessel as Elizabeth Selwyn and Mrs. Newless, Dennis Lotis as Richard Barlow, Tom Naylor as Bill Maitland and Betta St. John as Patricia Russell. It runs 78 minutes and was produced in the United Kingdom by Vulcan Film.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.7 from roughly 9,700 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.5 from around 177 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 from eight reviews places it below both audience scores. Moxey went on to direct Laura, The Night Stalker, Sanctuary of Fear and I, Desire.
