Four siblings arrive at an isolated house called Marrowbone with their mother, having left England to escape their violent father. When she dies soon after, Jack and his younger brothers and sisters hide her death so they will not be separated, and attempt to keep up the appearance of a normal life until Jack turns twenty-one. Their isolation is disturbed by a girl living nearby with whom Jack becomes involved, and by a lawyer asking questions about the family. At the same time, something sinister seems to share the house with them.
Marrowbone is the 2017 feature directing debut of Sergio G. Sánchez, who also wrote the screenplay; he had previously worked as a screenwriter. George MacKay plays Jack, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Allie, Charlie Heaton as Billy, Mia Goth as Jane and Matthew Stagg as Sam. The film was produced by Álvaro Augustin, Belén Atienza and Ghislain Barrois for Universal Pictures, Lionsgate, Telecinco Cinema and Mediaset España, and runs 111 minutes.
The film was made for about 8 million USD and took roughly 12 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.7/10 from around 50,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.3/10 from 1,891 votes. A critics' rating of 5.4/10 from 73 reviews places it below both audience scores.
