Death Race 2050

Death Race 2050 is set in a future America where corporate interests hold power and the public is kept subdued with violent virtual-reality entertainment. The centerpiece of the year is the Death Race, a nationally broadcast road race in which teams of drivers and navigators cross the country while earning points for running down pedestrians and forcing rival competitors off the road. The reigning champion and crowd favorite is Frankenstein, a driver who is part man and part machine. Unknown to him, his new co-pilot has ties to a rebel movement that wants to bring the race and the regime behind it to an end.

G.J. Echternkamp directed and co-wrote the film with Matt Yamashita, and Roger Corman produced it. It was Echternkamp's first feature as director, followed by The Car: Road to Revenge. The cast includes Manu Bennett as Frankenstein, Malcolm McDowell as the Chairman, Marci Miller as Annie Sullivan, Burt Grinstead as Jed Perfectus, Folake Olowofoyeku as Minerva Jefferson, and Anessa Ramsey as Tammy.

Released in January 2017 and running 93 minutes, the film blends action, comedy and science fiction. On IMDb it holds a rating of 3.7 from about 5,400 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 4.3 from around 206 votes.
