Short description
All Eyez on Me is a biographical drama about Tupac Shakur, tracing his life from his childhood in New York as the son of a Black Panther activist through his rise as the rapper 2Pac and his time with Death Row Records. The film follows his success as a musician, actor and poet alongside his legal troubles and imprisonment, and the growing rivalry with other rappers, including The Notorious B.I.G., that overshadowed his later years.
Benny Boom directed, working from a screenplay by Jeremy Haft, Eddie Gonzalez and Steven Bagatourian. It was his second feature, following S.W.A.T.: Firefight in 2011. Demetrius Shipp Jr. plays Shakur, with Danai Gurira as his mother Afeni Shakur, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, Jamal Woolard as Biggie Smalls, Dominic L. Santana as Suge Knight and Annie Ilonzeh as Kidada Jones. The production had a budget of 40 million USD and took about 56 million USD worldwide.
Audience reactions were mixed: on IMDb the film holds 5.9/10 from around 26,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.7/10 from roughly 1,269 votes. A film critics' rating of 4.3/10 from 93 reviews places it well below both audience scores.
