Short description

Becca Crane is a teenager who is not a vampire, and she finds herself pursued by two very different boys: Edward, who is unnaturally pale, and Jacob, who turns into a small dog when he feels threatened. Her father Frank, the town sheriff, treats her like a child and keeps embarrassing her, while her friends work through their own romantic entanglements. All of these threads come together at the school prom, where Becca finally has to make her choice.

Vampires Suck is a parody of the vampire romance craze, with the Twilight films as its main target. It was directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, who also wrote and produced it, and it sits in the middle of the run of spoofs they made together, between Disaster Movie and The Starving Games. Jenn Proske plays Becca, with Matt Lanter as Edward, Chris Riggi as Jacob, Diedrich Bader as Frank, and Anneliese Van Der Pol and Ken Jeong in supporting roles.

The film was released in August 2010 and runs 82 minutes. Made for about 20 million dollars, it took in roughly 81 million worldwide. Reactions were poor: on IMDb it holds a rating of 3.5 out of 10 from around 55,000 votes, and on TMDB 4.4 out of 10 from about 1,400 votes. A critics' rating of 2.5 out of 10 from 89 reviews is in line with those audience scores.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Arielle Kebbel played the vampire Lexi in 8 episodes of the television series "The Vampire Diaries" (2009-2017).
  • In the scene where Matt Lanter's character undresses, the actor actually filmed nude, with his genitals barely covered.
