The Eternal Road

Jussi Ketola returns to Finland from an America struggling through the Great Depression, only to find political tensions rising at home. On a summer night in 1930, nationalist militants abduct him from his house and force him on a long march toward Soviet Russia. In the Soviet Union he is pressed to inform on American workers who have come to help build the new society, while his one aim remains to get back to his family.

The film is based on real events and was directed by Antti-Jussi Annila, who wrote the screenplay with Aku Louhimies and Antti Tuuri. It is Annila's second feature, following Sauna in 2008. Tommi Korpela plays Jussi Ketola, with Sidse Babett Knudsen as Sara, Hannu-Pekka Björkman, Irina Björklund, Sampo Sarkola and Ville Virtanen among the cast. The production was a Finnish, Swedish and Estonian co-production made for about 3 million US dollars, and it runs 103 minutes.

Released in September 2017, the film drew a much larger audience response on IMDb, where it holds 7.1 out of 10 from roughly 2,900 votes, than on TMDB, where it stands at 6.6 from a small number of votes.
