The Warriors Gate

Jack is a teenager who spends most of his time playing video games, to the frustration of those around him. When a mysterious chest opens a passage through time, he is pulled into an ancient empire where a ruthless warlord, Arun, holds power and terrorizes the population. To survive and find a way home, Jack has to turn the skills he learned in front of a screen into real fighting ability, and to help Princess Su Lin, who is threatened by Arun's plans.

The Warriors Gate was released in 2016 and directed by Matthias Hoene. It is the second of the three films he has directed, following Cockneys vs Zombies from 2012 and preceding Little Bone Lodge from 2023. The screenplay was written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen. Uriah Shelton plays Jack, with Ni Ni as Su Lin and Dave Bautista as Arun. Mark Chao, Francis Ng and Kara Wai Ying-Hung appear as Zhoo, the Wizard and the Mountain Spirit. The production was a Canadian, Chinese and French co-production involving Canal+, EuropaCorp, Ciné+ and Fundamental Films, and it runs 108 minutes.

Audience responses to the film are mixed and divided by platform. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.4 out of 10 from more than five thousand votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.6 out of 10 from a much smaller group of around four hundred voters.
