Tragedy Girls

Tragedy Girls is a comedy-horror film about two teenage best friends, Sadie Cunningham and McKayla Hooper, who run an online show devoted to real-life crime and tragedy. Craving attention and fame, they kidnap a serial killer named Lowell Lehmann and force him to teach them his methods, planning to use his crimes as material to build their following. Their scheme soon spins out of control, and the pair begin committing murders themselves to keep their audience interested, turning their quiet Midwestern town into a scene of panic while they become local sensations.

Tyler MacIntyre directed the film, his third feature after Identité Secrète (2011) and Patchwork (2015). The screenplay was written by Chris Lee Hill, MacIntyre and Justin Olson, with Armen Aghaeian, Tara Ansley and Anthony Holt producing. Brianna Hildebrand plays Sadie and Alexandra Shipp plays McKayla, alongside Jack Quaid as Jordan Welch, Kevin Durand as Lowell Lehmann and Timothy V. Murphy as Sheriff Blane Welch. The production involved 26 credited cast members and 105 credited crew.

Released in October 2017, the film runs 98 minutes and was produced in the United States by Dawn's Light, It's The Comeback Kids, New Artist Pictures and Ardor Pictures. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from around 13,000 votes, and on TMDB it also sits at 6 out of 10, from roughly 365 votes. A critics' rating of 7 out of 10 from 72 reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores on both platforms.
