From Beijing with Love

A Chinese intelligence agency assigns its least capable operative to recover a stolen dinosaur fossil. Ling Ling Chat (Stephen Chow) works as a village butcher when he is not being an agent, and his equipment is as unreliable as his tradecraft: a flashlight that only works in daylight and a pistol that fires backwards. Sent to Hong Kong, he encounters Siu Kam (Anita Yuen), a professional assassin whose orders are to eliminate him upon arrival. Unaware of her assignment, he falls for her instead.

The film is a spoof of the James Bond series, with Chow's character modelling himself on 007 and the plot turning on whether the mission is genuine or a set-up involving a corrupt superior. Stephen Chow directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Vincent Kok and Lik-Chi Lee; Charles Heung produced. It was Chow's first turn as director and the earliest title in his directing filmography, which later includes The God of Cookery, Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle. Lik-Chi Lee's own directing credits run from Brother's Girlfriend through Love on Delivery and King of Comedy.

Among 33 credited cast members are Wong Kam-Kong, Law Kar-Ying, Pauline Chan Bo-Lin and Joe Cheng Cho. The film has a sizable audience following, with an IMDb rating of 7.1 from 8,800 votes and a TMDB rating of 7 from 247 votes. Critics were less enthusiastic, giving it 5.3 out of 10 across six reviews.
