Piano, Solo is a biographical drama about the life of jazz pianist Luca Flores. The story follows his journey from a childhood spent in Africa, where his father worked as a geologist, to his musical education in Florence. While his talent and dedication lead him to collaborate with prominent jazz figures like Chet Baker, he struggles with the lifelong emotional trauma caused by the accidental death of his mother. The film explores his rise to professional success alongside a private struggle with grief that eventually leads to his suicide in 1995.
Directed by Riccardo Milani, this was the first film in a series of works that includes Welcome Mr. President! and Life Is Life. The screenplay was written by Milani along with Ivan Cotroneo and Claudio Piersanti. The movie stars Kim Rossi Stuart in the title role, with Jasmine Trinca, Paola Cortellesi, Michele Placido, Sandra Ceccarelli, and Claudio Gioè in the supporting cast.
