Short description
Revolutionary Road is a drama set in the mid-1950s in a Connecticut suburb, where Frank and April Wheeler live with their two children. The couple see themselves as different from their neighbours and hold on to the idea that they are meant for something more than the ordinary life around them. April, who once hoped for an acting career, and Frank, stuck in a dull office job, settle into a comfortable routine they had always believed they would avoid. Their plan to leave it all behind and start over in Paris becomes the focus of their hopes, though the gap between what they imagine for themselves and what their daily life has become puts pressure on the marriage. The film is based on Richard Yates's novel.
Sam Mendes directed the fifth of the fifteen films he has made, following Jarhead and preceding Away We Go. Justin Haythe wrote the screenplay, and Scott Rudin was among the producers. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet play the leads, with Kathy Bates, Michael Shannon, Kathryn Hahn and David Harbour in supporting roles. The production cost about 35 million dollars and took roughly 76 million dollars worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 7.3 from around 235,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 7 out of 10 from a much smaller base of about 4,200. The critics' rating stands at 6.8 from 213 reviews, placing it slightly below the audience score on IMDb.
