The Romantics

The Romantics follows seven college friends who come together for a seaside wedding. Two of them, Tom and Lila, are the ones getting married, and the group reunites to celebrate the occasion. The gathering is complicated by Laura, the maid of honor and Lila's closest friend, who shares a history with the groom. As the celebration unfolds, old feelings and unresolved tensions rise to the surface, leaving those involved to question what the past means for the days ahead.

Galt Niederhoffer directed and wrote the screenplay, based on her own novel. The film was released in 2010 and marked her first time directing a feature; a decade later she directed 10 Things We Should Do Before We Break Up. Katie Holmes heads the cast as Laura, alongside Anna Paquin as Lila and Josh Duhamel as Tom, with Dianna Agron, Adam Brody and Malin Åkerman among the friends. Produced in the United States on a budget of about 5 million dollars, it runs 97 minutes and blends drama with romance.

Audience response was modest: on IMDb the film holds 5 out of 10 from roughly 13,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 4.9 out of 10 from around 264 votes. A critics' rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 35 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores on IMDb, suggesting that those who sought the film out responded somewhat more warmly than the reviewers did.
