Descendants 2
Short description
Descendants 2 continues the story of Mal and her friends as they try to adjust to life in the prosperous kingdom of Auradon. The pressure to behave like royalty becomes too much for Mal, and she flees back to the Isle of the Lost, the island where the children of villains were raised. There she finds that Uma, the daughter of Ursula, has claimed her old position and now leads a group of disaffected youths with plans that threaten the barrier between the island and Auradon. Ben, the son of Belle and the Beast, follows Mal to bring her back, but reaching her means moving through a world whose rules are not his own.
Kenny Ortega directed the film from a screenplay by Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon, with Shawn Williamson producing. It is the tenth film Ortega directed and the second in the Descendants series, following Descendants in 2015 and preceding Descendants 3 in 2019. Dove Cameron returns as Mal, alongside Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce and Booboo Stewart, with China Anne McClain joining as Uma and Brenna D'Amico appearing as Jane. The film runs 111 minutes and was released in July 2017.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.3 from over 13,500 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.4 from roughly 1,800 votes. The two audiences score it differently, with the smaller TMDB group notably more favorable.
What's left behind the scenes
- In the final episode of the film, the light from three lamps falls in such a way as to form the outline of Mickey Mouse's head.
- Once ashore, Uma walks on legs, while in the water she develops tentacles instead of legs – like Ursula, her mother. Ursula, in turn, is always shown with tentacles – both in water and on land.
- Uma and Ben perform the song 'Kiss the Girl' from the Disney animated film 'The Little Mermaid' (1989).
