Short description
Goodbye Christopher Robin is a British and American drama about the author A. A. Milne and his son, Christopher Robin, whose toys gave rise to the Winnie-the-Pooh stories. After serving in the First World War, Milne returns to his wife Daphne, and their son is born soon afterwards. The boy's play with his stuffed animals, among them a teddy bear named Winnie the Pooh, inspires his father to write books placing Christopher Robin and his toys at the centre. The stories become a great success and bring comfort to a country emerging from the war, but the attention that follows falls heavily on the family, including Christopher Robin's nanny, Olive.
Simon Curtis directed the film, which was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Simon Vaughan and produced by Steve Christian and Damian Jones. Domhnall Gleeson plays A. A. Milne, Margot Robbie plays Daphne Milne, and Will Tilston plays Christopher Robin; several younger performers appear as the boy at earlier ages, and the credited cast runs to 71 names. The film sits between Woman in Gold and The Art of Racing in the Rain in Curtis's directing work.
Released in September 2017, it runs 107 minutes and took about 7 million dollars worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 7.1 out of 10 from roughly 32,000 votes, and on TMDB 7 out of 10 from far fewer. A critics' rating of 6.3 out of 10 from 177 reviews places it below the audience scores.

- The end credits inform viewers that Christopher Robin took none of the money earned from the sale of his father's books. Christopher Robin did accept money, but didn't spend it on himself; it all went to Clare, who was born with cerebral palsy.
- The film accurately portrays the relationship between Christopher Robin Milne and his parents. Christopher Robin never forgave his father for exploiting his image (intentionally or not) to sell his books. Christopher Robin passed away in 1996. His relationship with his mother was also strained; she strongly opposed his marriage. Alan Milne died in 1956, and Christopher Robin had little contact with his mother until her death 15 years later. Christopher Robin's daughter, Clare, died in 2012 at the age of 56.
- Domhnall Gleeson (of Irish birth) and Margot Robbie (Australian) worked intensively with speech coaches to perfect the pronunciation of members of the British upper class in the post-World War II period. Gleeson, for example, remained in character as Alan Milne (1882-1956) from morning till night.
