Linda Henry is trapped in an unhappy marriage to Henry, a surgeon whose attention goes to his elaborate model railway and to other women rather than to his wife. She drinks heavily to cope. Then a young man named Martin arrives in town claiming to be the son she gave up for adoption years earlier, after becoming pregnant as a teenager. Linda takes him in, finding relief from her marriage in his company, but Martin turns violent and develops a fixation on Henry. The film was directed by Nicolas Roeg, the ninth of the thirteen features he made, following Aria and preceding The Witches, from a screenplay by Dennis Potter. Theresa Russell plays Linda, Gary Oldman plays Martin, and Christopher Lloyd plays Henry, with supporting roles for Colleen Camp, Sandra Bernhard and Seymour Cassel.

Track 29 was released in 1988 and runs 86 minutes. It is a British-American drama with mystery elements, produced by HandMade Films on a budget of 5 million dollars. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.8 from around 2,700 votes, and on TMDB 5.6 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 6.4 from eight reviews places it somewhat above the audience scores. The modest vote counts suggest the film has remained a relatively little-seen entry in Roeg's filmography rather than one of his more widely watched works.
