Short description

Ali leaves behind a troubled life and follows her dreams to Los Angeles, where she lands a job as a cocktail waitress at the Burlesque Lounge, a once-majestic theater that houses an inspired musical revue. Vowing to perform there, she makes the leap from bar to stage, helping restore the club's former glory.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Jessica Biel and Lindsay Lohan both competed for the role of Nikki, which Kristen Bell eventually landed.
  • Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz, and Taylor Lautner competed for the role of Jack, which ultimately went to another "Twilight" star, Cam Gigandet.
  • The large letters spelling out the word "Burlesque" that we see in the film's finale ("Show me how you Burlesque") cost the filmmakers nearly $400,000.
  • Cher herself designed the sketches for her costumes for the filming.
  • The photo of little Ali with her mother, which we see repeatedly in the film, is actually a real photograph of seven-year-old Christina Aguilera and her mother.
  • The idea for the film came to director Steve Antin after he saw Christina Aguilera perform with the Pussycat Dolls in 2002. Steve Antin is the brother of Robin Antin, the creator of the group.
  • Many of the dance doubles at the 'Burlesque' club were formerly members of the Pussycat Dolls collective – a troupe from Las Vegas that became a pop ensemble.
  • Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz, and Taylor Lautner competed for the role of Jack, which ultimately went to another "Twilight" star, Cam Gigandet.
  • The large letters spelling out the word "Burlesque" that we see in the film's final number ("Show me how you Burlesque") cost the filmmakers nearly $400,000.
