Short description
Recently deceased, a white-sheeted ghost returns to his suburban home to console his bereft wife, only to find that in his spectral state he has become unstuck in time, forced to watch passively as the life he knew and the woman he loves slowly slip away.
What's left behind the scenes
- The existence of the project was announced after filming had already been completed.
- The film was shot in Dallas from July to September 2016.
- Playing a ghost, Casey Affleck wore several petticoats and hid a hoop under a sheet.
- The pie scene was filmed in one take. According to Rooney Mara, the pie was vegetarian with a chocolate aroma, but tasted simply awful.
- The house where part of the action takes place was chosen by director and screenwriter David Lowery because the building reminded him of the first house he lived in after getting married. The house was slated for demolition, so the filmmakers didn't have to pay to use it.
- In some scenes, the ghost was played by the artist who painted the picture, David Pink, who had a build similar to Casey Affleck's.
- David Lowery said in an interview that the plot was inspired by his relationship with his wife. He didn't want to move from Texas to Los Angeles. A significant portion of the dialogue was taken from his arguments with his wife at the time.
