12 Strong

12 Strong is a war drama set in the weeks after the September 11 attacks. A small US Special Forces team, led by Captain Mitch Nelson, is sent into Afghanistan on a secret mission to help local fighters take on the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. Once inside the country, the soldiers work alongside Afghan warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum and his Northern Alliance forces. Moving through mountainous terrain on horseback, the outnumbered Americans rely on their training, their Afghan allies and careful planning to push the enemy back. The mission grows more dangerous when the team is drawn into a confrontation that leaves them exposed in hostile territory, while their families wait at home.

The film is directed by Nicolai Fuglsig, working from a screenplay by Ted Tally and Peter Craig, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer with Molly Smith and Thad Luckinbill. Chris Hemsworth plays Mitch Nelson, with Michael Shannon, Michael Peña, Navid Negahban, Trevante Rhodes and Geoff Stults among the main cast. It cost about 35 million dollars and took roughly 67 million dollars worldwide.

Audience reactions were moderate: on IMDb it holds 6.5 from around 100,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 from about 3,300 votes. A critics' rating of 5.5 from 172 reviews places it below the audience scores.
