Taxi 5 follows Sylvain Marot, a Parisian police officer and exceptionally skilled driver who is transferred against his will to the municipal police in Marseille after a scandal. There, a gang of Italian robbers is targeting jewellery stores and escaping in powerful Ferraris, and the city's mayor, the former commissioner Gibert, tasks Marot with stopping them. Realising that ordinary police vehicles cannot keep up, Marot must work with Eddy Maklouf, the nephew of the famous Daniel and the worst driver in Marseille, because Eddy is the only person who can recover the legendary white taxi.
The film is directed by Franck Gastambide, who also plays Marot, and is the third feature he directed, after Porn in the Hood in 2012 and before Medellin in 2023. The screenplay is by Stéphane Kazandjian, Gastambide and Malik Bentalha, who appears as Eddy. Bernard Farcy returns as Gérard Gibert, alongside Salvatore Esposito as Toni Dog, Édouard Montoute as Alain Trésor and Sabrina Ouazani as Samia. It was produced by Luc Besson and Hicham El Ghorfi.
Released in January 2018, the film had a budget of 20 million dollars and took 64 million dollars worldwide, a strong return relative to its cost. Audience scores are modest: on IMDb it holds 4.6 out of 10 from around 12,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.4 out of 10 from about 1,100 votes.
