The King

A young man from a poor background overcomes a difficult childhood to become a powerful prosecutor in South Korea. Seeking authority and respect, he enters a prestigious law school and eventually aligns himself with a circle of wealthy, influential officials. While he climbs the social hierarchy and achieves his goals, he discovers that maintaining such power requires compromising his morals and accepting the cruelty inherent in the system.

Directed and written by Han Jae-rim, this action crime film followed his 2013 work The Face Reader and preceded his 2022 production Emergency Declaration. The movie stars Zo In-sung as the ambitious Park Tae-su and Jung Woo-sung as Han Kang-sik, with a credited cast of 35 performers including Bae Sung-woo, Kim A-joong, Ryu Jun-yeol, and Kim Eui-sung.
