Mária takes a job as a quality inspector at a Budapest slaughterhouse, where her strict adherence to the rulebook and her reserved manner keep most of her colleagues at a distance. Endre, the plant's finance director, is a quiet man with a partial paralysis, and the two gradually form a cautious connection. When a psychologist conducts routine interviews with the staff after a theft at the facility, she uncovers something neither of them expected: Mária and Endre have been sharing the same dream, meeting each night as a pair of deer in a snowy forest.
Ildikó Enyedi wrote and directed the film, which came after a run of features including First Love and stands as her sixth narrative feature. Alexandra Borbély plays Mária, with Géza Morcsányi as Endre and supporting turns from Réka Tenki, Ervin Nagy, Zoltán Schneider and Tamás Jordán. The film was released in 2017 and runs 116 minutes.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.5 from roughly 31,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.2 from over 600 votes, indicating a generally favorable but not unanimous audience response. The film critics' rating of 7.4 from 78 reviews aligns closely with those viewer scores, suggesting broad agreement about the film's merits. Its worldwide box office of about 2 million dollars is modest, consistent with an art-house release.
