The Ballad of Lefty Brown

Lefty Brown has spent his life as the loyal sidekick of Edward Johnson, a celebrated figure in the Montana Territory who has moved into politics as the state's first senator. When Johnson is shot dead on his ranch, Lefty, who was nearby and blames himself, sets out after the killer. His pursuit draws him into the harsh realities of frontier justice, where the line between lawman and outlaw is not always clear, and where he must act on his own for the first time in decades. The story takes place in Montana in 1889, around the time it became a state.

The film is a western written and directed by Jared Moshé, his second feature and the first of the two he has directed to date. Bill Pullman plays Lefty, with Peter Fonda as Edward Johnson, Kathy Baker as Laura Johnson, and Jim Caviezel, Tommy Flanagan and Diego Josef in supporting roles. It was produced by Neda Armian, Moshé and Edward Parks for several independent companies on a budget of about 8 million dollars.

Audience responses to the film have been moderate and consistent: it holds a rating of 6.3 out of 10 on IMDb from roughly 8,600 votes, and the same score on TMDB from around 190 votes. A critics' rating of 6.3 out of 10 from 29 reviews places professional opinion in line with that of viewers.
