Lucas Hill, an American diamond trader, travels to Russia to complete a sale of rare blue stones whose origins are questionable. When his local contact disappears along with the merchandise, Lucas follows him to a small town in Siberia, hoping to recover the diamonds before his buyer, the oligarch Boris Volkov, loses patience. There he meets Katya, the owner of a small café, and becomes drawn into an obsessive relationship with her while trying to navigate a criminal world he does not understand.
The film is directed by Matthew Ross, following his 2016 debut Frank & Lola, from a screenplay by Scott B. Smith. Keanu Reeves, who also produced, plays Lucas; Ana Ularu plays Katya, with Pasha D. Lychnikoff as Volkov and Boris Gulyarin as Pyotr. It is a German, Canadian and American co-production made for about two million dollars.
Released in July 2018, the film runs 105 minutes and drew little enthusiasm. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.3 from around 19,000 votes, and on TMDB it stands at 4.8 from roughly 629 votes. A critics' rating of 4 out of 10, based on 49 reviews, sits close to those audience scores, indicating broad agreement that the film fell short for most viewers.
