Short description
Set just before the D-Day landings, this war film follows a group of American paratroopers who land behind enemy lines in occupied France. While attempting to complete a critical mission to support the Allied invasion, the soldiers discover a secret Nazi laboratory. The facility has been used for supernatural experiments, forcing the team to fight against genetically altered enemies they were not trained to encounter.
The film was directed by Julius Avery, marking his second feature following Son of a Gun. It was produced by J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber through Paramount and Bad Robot, with a screenplay written by Billy Ray and Mark L. Smith. The main cast includes Jovan Adepo as Boyce and Wyatt Russell as Ford, alongside Pilou Asbæk, Mathilde Ollivier, John Magaro, and Iain De Caestecker.
Produced with a budget of 38 million USD, the movie earned 42 million USD at the worldwide box office. It has received generally positive reception from both audiences and professionals. It holds a rating of 6.6/10 on IMDb based on 115,000 votes and 6.7/10 on TMDB from 3,236 votes. Film critics provided a similar evaluation, giving the movie a rating of 6.7/10 across 226 reviews.

- The film features more practical effects than tricks created using computer technology.
- Some scenes were filmed at Bluebell Railway sites – a functioning heritage railway along the border of East Sussex and West Sussex counties, opened to the public in August 1960.
- Operation Overlord, or the Normandy landings – a strategic operation of the Allied forces from June 6th to August 25th, 1944, the largest airborne operation in history, involving over 3 million people. It was carried out in 2 stages: Operation Neptune, or "D-Day," i.e., the capture of a bridgehead on the continent, and Operation Cobra, during which an offensive was launched across France.
- The first scene, in which soldiers jump out of a burning plane, was filmed as follows: the plane was suspended on a special device, its nose was blown off by an explosion, the plane was tilted as if it were actually falling, and stunt performers were used in the filming.
- It took 5 hours every day to apply makeup to Pilou Asbaek.
- Wyatt Russell lost more than 11 kilograms during filming.
- The scene with Chase's neck was filmed using mannequins and animatronics.
- It was initially reported that the film would be the fourth installment in the Cloverfield film series, but on April 25th, Abrams himself announced at CinemaCon that the film would not be related to that series.
