Dune

Dune is set in a distant future where noble houses rule the known galaxy under an emperor. The Atreides family, led by Duke Leto, is assigned stewardship of Arrakis, a desert planet that is the only source of a valuable substance called spice, which makes interstellar travel possible. The assignment displaces the Harkonnens, the Atreides' long-standing enemies, who had controlled the planet before them. Paul, the duke's son, travels with his family into this hostile world and becomes entangled in the political schemes surrounding the spice, while confronting a destiny larger than he can grasp.

Denis Villeneuve directed and co-wrote the film with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts, adapting Frank Herbert's novel. It is the tenth of thirteen films he has directed in chronological order, following Blade Runner 2049 and preceding Dune: Part Two. Timothée Chalamet plays Paul, with Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Stellan Skarsgård as Baron Harkonnen and Stephen McKinley Henderson as Thufir Hawat. The production, made by Legendary Pictures, cost 165 million dollars and returned 411 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 8 out of 10 from more than 729,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.8 out of 10 from over 15,000 votes; a critics' rating of 7.6 out of 10 from 514 reviews places it close to the audience scores.
