Light of My Life takes place in a world nearly emptied of women by a pandemic. A father and his young daughter, who survived because she is immune, travel through the forests of North America and avoid towns as much as they can. To keep her safe, he hides her identity and has her pass as a boy, and the two of them survive through constant movement and careful improvisation. When contact with other people becomes unavoidable, the fragile life they have built is put under pressure.
Casey Affleck directed the film and wrote the screenplay, producing it with Teddy Schwarzman and John Powers Middleton. It is his second feature as director, following I'm Still Here and preceding Company. Affleck plays the father, with Anna Pniowsky as his daughter Rag, Elisabeth Moss as Mom, and supporting turns from Tom Bower, Timothy Webber and Hrothgar Mathews. It runs 119 minutes.
Released in August 2019, the film drew modest numbers: on IMDb it holds 6.6/10 from around 17,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5/10 from roughly 600 votes. A critics' score of 6.7/10 from 56 reviews places it slightly above the audience ratings, suggesting a somewhat warmer reception among reviewers than among general viewers.
