Emily Walters is an American widow living in Hampstead, London, whose days have settled into a comfortable and uneventful routine. Her life changes when she notices Donald Horner, a local recluse who has spent seventeen years living in a makeshift hut on the edge of the forest. After he is attacked and as developers move to evict him and clear the land for a luxury building project, Emily becomes involved in his cause. Although he is gruff and repeatedly declines her help, the two grow closer as the threat to his home intensifies.
Joel Hopkins directed the film, following Last Chance Harvey and The Love Punch. The screenplay is by Robert Festinger, and the producers are Douglas Rae and Robert Bernstein. Diane Keaton stars as Emily, with Brendan Gleeson as Donald. James Norton appears as Philip, alongside Lesley Manville as Fiona, Jason Watkins as James Smythe and Simon Callow as a judge.
Released in June 2017, the British production runs 102 minutes and combines comedy and romance. It took about 6 million dollars at the worldwide box office. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.1 from around 8,300 votes, and on TMDB it also scores 6.1, from 222 votes. A critics' rating of 5 out of 10, based on 60 reviews, places it below both audience scores.
