The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society

Set in London and on the Channel Island of Guernsey shortly after the Second World War, the film follows Juliet Ashton, a writer searching for the subject of her next book. A letter from a pig farmer named Dawsey Adams introduces her to a literary society that islanders formed during the German occupation, when meeting to discuss books gave them a cover for gathering and a way to endure hardship. Intrigued, Juliet travels to Guernsey to meet the members and learn their stories, and her growing attachment to the island and its people reshapes her life.

Mike Newell directed, working from a screenplay by Kevin Hood, Thomas Bezucha and Don Roos. The film arrived late in a career that includes Four Weddings and a Funeral, Donnie Brasco, Mona Lisa Smile, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Great Expectations. Lily James plays Juliet, with Michiel Huisman as Dawsey, Jessica Brown Findlay as Elizabeth McKenna, Matthew Goode as Sidney Stark, Katherine Parkinson as Isola Pribby and Glen Powell as Mark Reynolds. Thirty-four cast members and seventy-three crew are credited.
