Arctic

Arctic follows a pilot whose aircraft has gone down in a remote frozen wilderness. He has managed to stay alive by sheltering in the wreck, fishing through the ice for food and keeping a record of the passing days, while hoping to be spotted from the air. Just as rescue seems within reach, an accident removes that chance, and he must weigh the safety of his camp against a journey across the ice with no guarantee of reaching help.

Joe Penna directed the film and wrote it with Ryan Morrison, his first feature before Stowaway. Mads Mikkelsen plays the stranded pilot, with Maria Thelma Smáradóttir as a young woman and Tintrinai Thikhasuk as a helicopter pilot. The production, mounted by XYZ Films, Pegasus Pictures, Armory Films and The Domain Group, cost about 2 million dollars and returned roughly 4 million worldwide.

On IMDb the film holds 6.8 from around 63,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.5 from about 1,400 votes. A critics' rating of 7.2 from 151 reviews places it somewhat above those audience scores. The Icelandic and American co-production, running 98 minutes, belongs to the adventure and drama genres.
