Elizabeth Harvest
Short description
Elizabeth marries Henry, a brilliant scientist many years her senior, and moves into his grand estate. He tells her that everything in the house is hers to enjoy, with one exception: a room she must never enter. The staff treat the new mistress of the house with respect, yet she senses that something is wrong. When Henry leaves on business, Elizabeth gives in to her curiosity and goes into the forbidden room, setting off a science fiction story that reworks the Bluebeard tale.
Sebastian Gutierrez wrote, directed and produced the film, his third feature as director after Rise: Blood Hunter and Hotel Noir. Abbey Lee plays Elizabeth, with Ciarán Hinds as Henry. Carla Gugino and Matthew Beard appear as Claire and Oliver, and Dylan Baker plays Logan. Released in August 2018, the film runs 105 minutes.
Audience responses are modest: on IMDb it holds 5.8/10 from around 10,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.2/10 from roughly 400 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9/10 from 21 reviews places it close to the audience scores, indicating a divided but not dismissive response to its blend of horror, mystery and science fiction.
What's left behind the scenes
- Harvest is not the character’s surname. Harvest refers to the biological samples that Henry (Kieran Hindes) took from his wife and from which he later grew her clones. The original title of the film can be translated as “Elizabeth’s Harvest.” According to English title capitalization rules, such words must be capitalized, therefore the original title is ambiguous.
